Getting Started

Follow the guides in this section to get started quickly.

Power On

Connect

Default "admin" password is "admin"

Config Tree

Most of the DGBox configuration is accomplished via the Config Tree which loads immediately after "admin" user login. All the data-sources, devices, points and system objects are accesible and configurable from this view.

Operations

You can right-click with your mouse on nodes in the "Config Tree" to pull up a context menu that allows you to perform additional functions.

Cut

Marks a node in the tree to be moved to a different folder.

Paste

Moves a previously "Cut" node to the selected folder.

Add folder

Adds a folder to the tree to help with data organization. Please note that you can only create folders under "Data Sources" and "Devices".

Add logic

Adds a "Logic" node to the specified folder. Logic allows to create custom system control sequences that utilize system data, points, histories and queries to perform custom actions using JavaScript. Take a look a the Logic section of the wiki for an in-depth overview of the Logic Node.

Delete

Deletes the selected "config Tree" node from the DGBox.

DGBox Settings

After logging in to the DGBox for the first time make sure to configure the correct Date, Time, Time-Zone and Network settings.

Date and Time Settings

Network Settings

The DGBox has two physical ethernet ports and a WiFi adapter that can be used in either "Client" or "Base Station" mode.

Default Configuration

The Configuration as shipped from the factory.

Adding Data-Sources

In order to acquire data from devices, you need to first specify which protocol the device is capable of communicating. In the DGBox this is referred to as the data source. Expand "Data Sources" and then click on "Add data source" in the Config Tree.

Select the appropriate data source from the drop-down.

Most of the time the only field that you need to fill in, is just a name for the data source that will be shown in the Config Tree. Add it to the tree by pressing the "Add" button.

Enabling

enable_node.jpg

After a data source is added please ensure that it is enabled. If it is disable you can enable it by pressing the "Enable" button.

Adding Devices

A device is a physical controller that communicates with the DGBox using a specific protocol which corresponds with the data source type. You can add one or more devices to the same data source.

Device Discovery

Many DGBox data sources support device discovery.

  1. Click the "Add device" tree node under your data source.
  2. Click the "Discovery" tab in the right pane if it is available.
  3. Click the data source specific discovery button to start the discovery process.

After discovery is finished, check the devices you wish to add to the DGBox and click the "Add" button.

Adding Manually

If the data source doesn't support discovery (e.g. Modbus) or the device is offline you can manually input the device parameters and add the device to the DGBox.

Enabling

enable_node.jpg

After a device is added please ensure that it is enabled. If it is disabled you can enable it by pressing the "Enable" button.

Adding Points

Points are referred to pieces of data that a particular device is able to expose to the DGBox. Points typically have a value, and historical trending and alarm settings. In order to build graphics in DGLux and show data in them coming from your devices, you need to add one or more points from one or more devices from one or more data sources.

Point Discovery

Typically data sources that support device discovery also support point discovery on those devices.

  1. Click the "Add point" tree node under your device.
  2. Click the "Discovery" tab in the right pane if it is available.
  3. Click the device specific discovery button to start the discovery process.

Adding Manually

If the device doesn't support discovery (e.g. Modbus) or the device is offline you can manually input the point's parameters and add the point to the device.

Monitor All Device Points

After adding all the desired data sources, devices and points, you should make sure that your data source and device is enabled also you can modify the device polling interval under the device properties. To verify correct communication of the device and point values, click on the "Present Values" tab of the device.

Values will blink when they are polled / updated. If you see a wrench next to a point you can click it to verify the commanding of the point.

Network Architecture

Please note that daisy-chainging DGBoxes with ethernet will only be supported in a future firmware release.

Building Dashboards

Now you are ready to build graphics and dashboards to visualize your data. Click the design_mode_button.jpg "Design Mode" button in the upper right hand corner.
